Biochem/physiol Actions
PFKFB3 is ubiquitously present in nucleus of proliferating tissues, transformed cells, in various solid tumours and astrocytomas. In mammals, four types of PFKFB genes have been identified such as PFKFB1, PFKFB2, PFKFB3 and PFKFB4 which encode for the different PFK-2/FBPase-2 isoenzymes. Their characterization depends on the tissue expression pattern. PFKFB3 is associated with cell proliferation in carbohydrate metabolism. It has the highest PFK-2/FBPase-2 activity ratio.
Physical form
Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

The regulation of metabolism and growth must be tightly coupled to guarantee the efficient use of energy and anabolic substrates throughout the cell cycle. Fructose 2,6-bisphosphate (Fru-2,6-BP) is an allosteric activator of 6-phosphofructo-1-kinase (PFK-1), a rate-limiting enzyme and essential control

PFK-2/FBPase-2 (6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase) catalyses the synthesis and degradation of Fru-2,6-P2 (fructose 2,6-bisphosphate), a key modulator of glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. The PFKFB3 gene is involved in cell proliferation owing to its role in carbohydrate metabolism. In the present study we analysed the
