Monoclonal Anti-Glycophorin C (β) antibody produced in mouse is suitable for immunoblot analysis to examine the association of glycophorin C with HGP44 protein.
The antibody is suitable for:
  • agglutination assay at a working dilution of 1:50 using human erythrocytes
  • flow cytometry using bone marrow nucleated cells
  • indirect immunofluorescence using bone marrow nucleated cells
  • western blot using extracts of human red blood cell ghosts
Antibodies specific for GPC have been used in the diagnosis of leukemias. It has also been used in research in red blood cells ontogeny, investigations in the function of GPC membrane abnormalities and relations of GPC and Ge antigens.

Biochem/physiol Actions

By immunoblotting, the antibody localizes specifically the Gerbich blood group antigen-related sialoglycoprotein β in extracts of human red blood cell ghosts. The antibody (also cited as clone no. 2C10) binds to 18% of bone marrow nucleated cells in smears and tissue preparations using immunofluorescent microscopy or flow cytometry.
Glycophorins (GP) are sialic acid-rich polypeptides (sialoglycoproteins) that are part of the erythrocyte membrane. They are denoted α, β, γ, δ based on the decreasing molar mass. Glycophorin C (GPC) is a minor red blood cell sialoglycoprotein. It has a molar mass of 35-38kDa. It plays a key role in maintaining the shape of erythrocytes by regulating the deformability and mechanical stability of red cells. It is usually found among the erythroid progenitors in early erythroid differentiation.

Physical form

Solution in 0.1 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 1% bovine serum albumin and 15 mM sodium azide.
