General description

The gp120 (glycoprotein-120) is a HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)-1 envelope glycoprotein. The entry of the virus in cells requires association between gp120 and cell surface receptors, CD4 (cluster of differentiation 4) and chemokine receptor.

Other Notes

Peptide derived from the CD4 attachment region of HIV gp120.

The human immunodeficiency virus HIV-1 establishes persistent infections in humans which lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The HIV-1 envelope glycoproteins, gp120 and gp41, are assembled into a trimeric complex that mediates virus entry into target cells. HIV-1 entry depends

In our efforts to identify products that might be used for active immunotherapy in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, we have studied synthetic peptides derived from the CD4 attachment site of gp120. Two peptides have emerged with particularly interesting properties.

The entry of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) into cells requires the sequential interaction of the viral exterior envelope glycoprotein, gp120, with the CD4 glycoprotein and a chemokine receptor on the cell surface. These interactions initiate a fusion of the viral
