Biochem/physiol Actions

A transcriptional factor that mediates the expression of heat shock proteins by binding to a heat shock response element located upstream from the heat shock protein genes. In unstressed cells HSF-1 is non-DNA binding protein that rapidly converts to the transcriptionally active form in response to heat and heavy metals.
