General description
IGFBP5 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein-5) is a secreted protein and can also move to the nucleus. IGFBPs have cysteine-rich amino- and carboxyl-terminal domains.
Application
As a result of glycosylation, the recombinant mouse protein migrates to at least three bands with molecular weights ranging from 28-38 kDa in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Binds to bone cells and is the predominant insulin-like growth factor binding protein in bone; when binding the extracellular matrix, it modulates IGF activity.
IGFBP-5 binds to bone cells and is the predominant insulin-like growth factor binding protein in bone. When IGFBP-5 binds the extracellular matrix, it modulates IGF activity. Mouse, human, and rat IGFBP-5 share 97% homology.
IGFBPs (insulin-like growth factor binding proteins) control IGF functions by regulating their access to other proteins, including receptors. IGFBP5 is involved in osteogenesis, muscle differentiation and kidney development. It is a crucial protein for the development of fibrosis.
Physical form
Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in 30% acetonitrile and 0.1% TFA containing 1.25 mg bovine serum albumin.
Analysis Note
The biological activity is measured by its ability to inhibit recombinant mouse IGF-II on MCF-7 cells.

The six high-affinity insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBPs) comprise a conserved family of secreted molecules that modulate IGF actions by regulating their half-life and access to signaling receptors, and also exert biological effects that are independent of IGF binding. IGFBPs
