General description

Lymphotactin (XCL1) is generated by activated CD8+ T cells, Th1 (T helper)-polarized CD4+ T cells and NK (natural killer) cells. XCR1 (XC chemokine receptor 1) is a lymphotactin receptor.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lymphotactin (Lptn), a member of the C or γ subfamily of chemokines, is similar to members of the CC and CXC chemokine families, but lacks two of the four cysteine residues. Recombinant mouse lymphotactin has chemotactic activity for lymphocytes, NK cells, and mouse splenocytes, but not for monocytes or neutrophils.
Lymphotactin (XCL1) participates in the formation of lung granuloma. In humans, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)-1 protein, Tat, upregulates XCL1 expression. Lymphotactin might be involved in the CNS (central nervous system) infiltration of T lymphocytes, leading to HIV-1-mediated neurological diseases.
Member of the C or γ subfamily of chemokines, is similar to members of the CC and CXC chemokine families, but lacks two of the four cysteine residues; has chemotactic activity for lymphocytes, NK cells, and mouse splenocytes, but not for monocytes or neutrophils.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in 30% acetonitrile and 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid containing 1.25 mg bovine serum albumin.

Analysis Note

The biological activity is measured by its ability to chemoattract 3 week IL-2 cultured human lymphocytes and mouse BaF/3 cells transfected with hXCR1.
