General description
Melanin Concentrating Hormone (MCH) is a 19 amino acid cyclic neuropeptide. It belongs to a group of orexigenic peptides. MCH is abundantly expressed in the hypothalamus.
Application
Melanin Concentrating Hormone has been used as a hepta-decapeptide to study its effects on the reproductive axis and follicular development in female Oreochromis mossambicus.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Melanin Concentrating Hormone (MCH) functions in regulating feeding and energy homeostasis. It also plays a role in modulating arousal, promoting motivated behaviors, sleep patterns, and reproductive physiology. MCH is involved in controlling rapid eye movement (REM) sleep in rats. It acts as a nonselective agonist of melanin-concentrating hormone receptors 1 and 2 (MCHR-1 and -2).
