General description
Formaldehyde is widely employed in industry for a wide range of applications. It acts as a disinfectant and biocide, and is utilized as a tissue fixative and embalming agent. Formaldehyde is a key metabolite produced during normal metabolism and contributes to methylation reactions and protein and nucleic acid synthesis. Increased production of formaldehyde has been observed in many cancer cell lines and increased formaldehyde concentration in urine has been associated with bladder and prostrate cancer.
Application
- Modified Natural Rubber as a Simple Chemical Sensor with Smartphone Detection for Formaldehyde Content in a Seafood Sample.: This article explores the use of modified natural rubber as a chemical sensor, paired with smartphone detection, to measure formaldehyde content in seafood. This approach highlights the potential for accessible and mobile detection systems in food safety applications (Yeerum et al., 2022).
- Optical enzymatic formaldehyde biosensor based on alcohol oxidase and pH-sensitive methacrylic-acrylic optode membrane.: The study develops an optical enzymatic biosensor for formaldehyde, using alcohol oxidase with a pH-sensitive membrane, offering a novel approach for quick and sensitive detection in various analytical applications (Nurlely et al., 2022).
Suitable for the detection of formaldehyde in urine and other biological samples.
Biochem/physiol Actions
The Formaldehyde Assay kit provides a simple and direct procedure for measuring formaldehyde levels in urine and other biological samples. In this assay, formaldehyde is derivatized with acetoacetanilide in the presence of ammonia resulting in a fluorescent (λex = 370/λem = 470 nm) product, proportional to the formaldehyde present.
Features and Benefits
Compatible with high-throughput handling systems. Can be adapted for use with cuvettes.

Traditional diosgenin manufacturing process has led to serious environmental contamination and wastewater. Clean processes are needed that can alternate the diosgenin production. The β-glucosidase FBG1, cloned from Fusarium sp. CPCC 400709, can biotransform trillin and produce diosgenin. In this study
