General description

The new Catalase Assay Kit, MAK531, is now available! Catalase is a ubiquitous antioxidant enzyme that is present in nearly all living organisms. It functions to catalyze the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H202) to water and oxygen.

Application

The kit is suitable for the determination of catalase activity in a variety of biological samples.

Biochem/physiol Actions

In the assay, catalase first reacts with H202 to produce water and oxygen, the unconverted H202 reacts with the probe to produce a product, which can be measured colorimetrically at A570 nm or fluorometrically at λEx = 535 nm/λEm = 587 nm. Catalase activity is reversely proportional to the signal. The kit can detect 1 μU or less of catalase activity in samples.

Features and Benefits

The Catalase Assay Kit is:
  • Compatible with high-throughput handling systems.
  • Simple and rapid procedure with results in ∼40 minutes.
