General description

Neoagarohexaitol inhibits the activity of neoagarohexaose in the respiratory, oxidative, and microbiocidal responses.

Application

Neoagarohexaitol was used as a substrate for 3-agarase II activity in a study investigating β-agarases from Pseudomonas atlantica. It has also been used in a study to purify and characterize an extracellular β-agarase from Bacillus sp. MK03.

Preparation Note

Prepared enzymatically from agar

A new beta-agarase was purified from an agarolytic bacterium, Bacillus sp. MK03. The enzyme was purified 129-fold from the culture supernatant by ammonium sulfate precipitation, anion exchange and gel filtration column chromatographic methods. The purified enzyme appeared as a single

Beta-Agarase I and II were characterised by their action on agar-type polysaccharides and oligosaccharides. Beta-Agarase I, an endo-enzyme, was specific for regions containing a minimum of one unsubstituted neoagarobiose unit [3,6-anhydro-alpha-L-galactopyranosyl-(1 leads to 3)-D-galactose], hydrolysing at the reducing side of
