Biochem/physiol Actions

RBM23 (RNA binding motif protein 23) is involved in the steroid hormone receptor-mediated transcription. It interacts with the steroid nuclear receptors to increase transcription of steroid-responsive transcriptional reporters in a hormone-dependent manner. It also acts as splicing cofactor for steroid receptors.

General description

RBM23 (RNA binding motif protein 23) is a member of U2AF65 family of proteins consisting of a serine-arginine-rich domain (RS domain) at the amino-terminal end, several RRM-RNA binding motifs at the central region of the protein and RRM/PUMP domain at the carboxyl-terminal end.

Increasing evidence indicates that transcription and pre-mRNA processing are functionally coupled to modulate gene expression. Here, we report that two members of the U2AF65 family of proteins, hCC1.3, which we call CAPERalpha, and a related protein, CAPERbeta, regulate both steroid
