Gene Information
human ... AMPH(273)
General description
AMPH (Amphiphysin) is a 128kD peripheral protein highly distributed in nervous system including many neurons, certain endocrine cell types, and spermatocytes. It exists as two isoforms having different molecular weights 128 and 108kD respectively, in breast cancer. In human, it is located on chromosome 7, region p13-p14. It is a member of amphiphysin family and consists of an SH3 domain.
Immunogen
Peptide with sequence C-KRKDESRISKAE from the internal region of the protein sequence according to NP_001626.1; NP_647477.1.
Application
Anti-Amphiphysin/AMPH antibody produced in goat is suitable for western blot.
Biochem/physiol Actions
AMPH (Amphiphysin) is involved in several pleotropic functions including endocytosis, actin function, and cell growth control. It plays an important role in synaptic vesicle endocytosis of axon terminals. Alteration in AMPH gene is associated with heritable disorders of the nervous system, endocrine tissues and male fertility. It also has correlation with a rare neurologic autoimmune disease, paraneoplastic Stiff-Man syndrome. It is also involved in the neoplastic growth cone dynamics.
