General description
The ANGPT2 (angiopoietin 2) gene is mapped to 8p23.1. The encoded protein belongs to the family of angiogenic factors.
Immunogen
Recombinant protein fragment contain a sequence corresponding to a region within amino acids 1 and 515 of Angiopoietin 2 according to NP_001138
Application
Suggested starting dilutions are as follows: IHC-P: 1:100-1:1000, WB: 1:500-1:3000. Not yet tested in other applications. Optimal working dilutions should be determined experimentally by the end user.
Biochem/physiol Actions
The protein encoded by the ANGPT2 (angiopoietin 2) gene is an antagonist of angiopoietin 1 (ANGPT1) and endothelial TEK tyrosine kinase (TIE-2, TEK). The encoded protein disrupts the vascular remodeling ability of ANGPT1 and may induce endothelial cell apoptosis. Three transcript variants encoding three different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]Ang-2 influences vascular stability by acting as a competitive antagonist of Ang-1. The agonistic function of Ang-2 is essential for lymphatic vascular formation. Overexpression of ANGPT2 is observed in liver cancer and cirrhosis and it induces cell proliferation. It also serves as an important biomarker for liver cancer. Ang-2 stimulates angiogenesis contributing to pathogenesis and progression of a number of chronic liver diseases.
