General description
N-cadherin, also known as cadherin 2 (CDH2), is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 18q11.2. N-Cadherin belongs to the cadherin family. It is highly expressed on the cell membrane of endothelium, nervous and muscular cells.
Immunogen
Recombinant protein encompassing a sequence within the center region of zebrafish N-cadherin.
Application
Suggested starting dilutions are as follows: WB: 1:5000-1:20000, IHC-Wm: 1:100-1:500. Not yet tested in other applications. Optimal working dilutions should be determined experimentally by the end user.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Cadherins plays a vital role in cell-cell adhesion. N-glycosylation of N-cadherin is associated with the process of tumorigenesis especially in mammary gland, renal system and ovary. In addition, N-glycosylation helps in maintaining N-cadherin stability and facilitates glioma migration. Over expression of CDH2 gene was observed in tumor cells. It is known to induce the invasive and chemoresistant attributes to the cancer cells. Loss of expression of the gene was observed in adrenocortical carcinoma. Thus, it can be used as a molecular biomarker in various types of tumoral adrenocortical tissue.
