Gene Information

human ... RACGAP1(29127)

General description

Rac GTPase activating protein 1 (RacGAP1) is a GTPase activating protein, encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 12q13.12. The encoded protein is a key constituent of the central spindling.
Anti-GTPase Activating protein Antibody detects endogenous levels of total GTPase Activating protein protein.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human GTPase Activating Protein.

Immunogen Range: 353-402

Biochem/physiol Actions

GTPase activating protein/ Rac GTPase activating protein 1 (RacGAP1) plays a vital role in regulation of various cellular processes, including cytokinesis, transformation, invasive migration, metastasis and cell differentiation. In male germ cells, the encoded protein controls the function of Rho proteins such as Rac and cdc42 to influence cell morphology, motility and establishment of polarity. RacGAP1 is also implicated in the growth and differentiation of hematopoietic cells. Overexpression of RacGAP1 has been associated with the development of bladder cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer and uterine carcinosarcoma. Loss of the gene leads to the formation of multinucleated cells and inhibition of cytokinesis.
