Biochem/physiol Actions

Cardionogen-2 is a biphasic modulator of cardiogenesis that enlarges the size of the zebrafish embryonic heart by promoting cardiomyocyte formation. Also, cardionogen-2 promotes murine ES cells to differentiate into beating cardiomyocytes. Apparently, cardionogen-2 inhibits Wnt/b-catenin dependent transcriptional activity. Treatment of zebrafish embryos with cardionogen-2 significantly enlarged both the atrium and ventricle, without causing apparent defects of embryonic morphology or other organ development.
