MCLA (methoxylated Cypridina luciferin analog) is a highly sensitive probe employed in the detection of reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly superoxide anion (O2•−) and singlet oxygen (1O2). It is notable for its blue luminescence (~ 455 nm), which is a critical indicator in ROS detection. MCLA′s detection mechanism involves oxidation to a probe radical, which then reacts with O2•− to produce luminescence. MCLA offers a broad dynamic range, making it versatile for both intracellular measurements in live cells and extracellular detection in various sample types.
