  • Site of action of the local anesthetic tetracaine in a phosphatidylcholine bilayer with incorporated cardiolipin.: This paper examines how tetracaine interacts with phosphatidylcholine bilayers containing cardiolipin, which has implications for understanding local anesthetic mechanisms (Shibata et al., 1995).


Biochem/physiol Actions

Cardiolipin is a mitochondrial phospholipid that is found in mammalian tissues in low concentrations. It is often a membrane component and can inhibit cell attachment of fibronectin, vitronectin, and type I collagen.

Physical form

Approximately 5 mg/ml in ethanol.

Other Notes

>80% polyunsaturated fatty acid content, primarily linoleic acid.
