Gene Information

human ... CCL11(6356)

General description

Eotaxin is a chemokine and belongs to the Th2 (T helper 2) cytokine family. It is expressed in many organs, such as heart, central nervous system and the cerebrospinal fluid. The associated gene (CCL11 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 11)) is mapped to human chromosome 17q12.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Eotaxin participates in immunoregulatory and inflammatory responses. It works as a chemoattractant for many immune cells, including eosinophils, basophils, myeloid cells and T-helper 2 lymphocytes. The eotaxin gene is associated with atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, asthma, ulcerative colitis, gastrointestinal disorders and parasitic infections. It is also involved with the pathogenesis of ovarian and gastric cancer. Eotaxin plays a significant role in the aging processes.

Physical form

Sterile filtered and Lyophilized without additives.

Preparation Note

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Reconstituted in water to a concentration of 0.1-1 μg/μL. It is recommended that further dilutions be made into buffer containing carrier protein or medium containing serum.
