Gene Information
human ... GDF7(151449)
General description
BMPs (bone morphogenetic proteins) belong to the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins. BMP-12 is highly conserved across species. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 2. Recombinant human BMP-12 is a 27kDa disulfide-linked homodimer containing two 122 amino acid polypeptide chains.
Application
Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP-12)/GDF-7 (growth differentiation factor 7) has been used as a supplement in human adipose stem cells (hASCs) growth media.
Biochem/physiol Actions
As implied by their name, BMPs (bone morphogenetic proteins) promote and regulate bone development, growth, remodeling and repair, in both prenatal development and postnatal growth of eye, heart, kidney, skin, and other tissues. BMP-12 regulates chondrogenesis, bone morphogenesis, and neuron differentiation. It also has a role in seminal vesicle development.
Physical form
Sterile filtered and Lyophilized without additives.
Preparation Note
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Reconstitute to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL in water containing BSA (50 mg BSA per 1 mg of protein). This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers.
