Application
DL-Trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride has been used to develop a capillary zone electrophoretic method with end-column electrochemiluminescence (ECL)-based detection technique.
Biochem/physiol Actions
DL-trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride (Benzhexol hydrochloride) is known to function as an antimuscarinic agent and a centrally acting anticholinergic. It can be used for controlling the symptoms of all Parkinsonism types, such as the idiopathic, and postencephalitic arteriosclerotic forms. Benzhexol hydrochloride exerts inhibitory functions on the parasympathetic nervous system.
Muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist
Preparation Note
DL-Trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride is soluble in water. It dissolves in methanol at 50 mg/ml to yield a clear to hazy, colorless solution.

An amnesic effect of anticholinergic drugs was previously described from several behavioral studies. We examined this effect induced by trihexyphenidyl and biperiden, clinically used in the parkinsonism and schizophrenic patients, by using passive avoidance tasks. Both of these drugs (0.1-10
