Application

Urotensin I teleost fish was administered intracerebroventricularly in juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) for studying the impact of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and urotensin I on aggression and anxiety-like behaviour.

Biochem/physiol Actions

A neuroendocrine peptide of the CRF family that is found in the brain of most fish species. It may be involved in the regulation of blood pressure in fish. It is closely related to mammalian urocortin and releases ACTH from cultured rat pituitary cells.
Urotensin I is a CRF-like neuropeptide, expresses mainly in the brain of most fish species. It induces the acetylcholine (ACTH) release from the superfused goldfish anterior pituitary cell column. It stimulates the marked, dose-dependent reduction in perfusion pressure in the hind limb of the rat.
