General description

An economical metal column should be used for less demanding applications where the inertness of glass is not required. This column is of a general configuration, and can be carefully bent to fit most instruments.
Packed column made up of stainless steel are basically employed when higher carrier gas flow rates are employed as they can sustain elevated pressure. Stainless steel columns are usually washed with dilute hydrochloric acid, then with water followed by methanol, acetone, methylene dichloride and n-hexane in order to remove any corrosion products and traces of lubricating agents.

Application

Molecular Sieve 5A support in stainless steel gas chromatographic column maybe used for the measurement of atmospheric nitrous oxide.

  1. Which document(s) contains shelf-life or expiration date information for a given product?

If available for a given product, the recommended re-test date or the expiration date can be found on the Certificate of Analysis.

  2. How do I get lot-specific information or a Certificate of Analysis?

The lot specific COA document can be found by entering the lot number above under the "Documents" section.

  3. What is meant by General Coil Configuration for Product 13830-U, SS col 10ft 1/8in 60/80 molsieve 5Å,General coil?

General Coil Configuration means that the column has a circular shape. The diameter of the circle is 6 inches and the ends extend 2 inches beyond the circle. The 1/8 in. stainless steel tubing used for Cat# 13830-U can be bent to fit most GC systems.

  4. How do you condition a SS col 10ft 1/8in 60/80 molsieve 5Å, General coil - column, Product 13830-U?

Attach the column to your GC injection port, establish a flow rate of at least 25 mL/min carrier gas, purge with carrier gas at room temperature for 30 minutes, increase oven temperature to 225°C at a rate of 4°C/min, and allow the column to condition at 225°C for 8-12 hours. After conditioning, allow the oven to cool to room temperature, turn off the carrier flow and allow the pressure to go to zero. Then reinstall the column into both the injector port and detector port, and establish desired carrier flow rate. The column should then be ready to use.

  5. What is the recommended maximum temperature for a SS col 10ft 1/8in 60/80 molsieve 5Å, General coil - column, Product 13830-U?

Recommended maximum temperature for the Mol Sieve 5A column is 225°C
