General description

Dichlorodimethylsilane (DCDMS) is a hydrophobic in nature. It can be used to make ultra-water-repellent silica nanoparticle films and superhydrophobic γ-alumina membranes.

Application

DCDMS in toluene was used for silanizing the vials overnight before performing solid-phase microextraction, for determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in water samples. It was also used as silanizing agent during a GC experiment for quantitative analysis of submicrogram amounts of the phenylthiohydantoins.
