General description

EPA 552 Methyl Esters Mix is a multi-component solution (1000 μg/mL each component in methyl tert-butyl ether) containing methyl bromoacetate, methyl bromochloroacetate, methyl chloroacetate, methyl dibromoacetate, methyl dichloroacetate, and methyl trichloroacetate as certified reference materials (CRMs). EPA 552 Methyl Esters Mix is typically used to quantitatively calibrate capillary gas chromatographs used to determine the byproducts of drinking water disinfection. These byproducts have the potential to cause adverse human health effects.
The US EPA method 552 is one of the methods used to monitor the levels of disinfection byproducts. Laboratories that support water systems needing to determine disinfection byproducts are required to use this method.
US EPA 500 Series methods are analytical methods for identifying and quantifying organic contaminants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), pesticides, synthetic organic compounds (SOCs), and trihalomethane disinfection byproducts (THMs) in raw source water, finished drinking water, and drinking water at all stages of treatment.

Application

EPA 552 Methyl Esters Mix is used as a CRM to quantify disinfection by-products (DBPs) such as haloacetic acids in drinking water by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique.
Refer to the product′s Certificate of Analysis for more information on a suitable instrument technique. Contact Technical Service for further support.

Other Notes

This Certified Reference Material (CRM) is produced and certified in accordance with ISO 17034 and ISO/IEC 17025. All information regarding the use of this CRM can be found on the certificate of analysis.
