General description
Silica gel is an amorphous form of silicon dioxide (SiO2), which is widely used as a desiccant for moisture absorption, as a stationary phase in chromatographic applications, and also as a humidity indicator.
Application
Silica gel can be used as a stationary phase in thin-layer chromatography to separate a mixture of non-volatile compounds using a single solvent or a mixture of solvents as mobile phase.
