Nicotinamide, a member of the family of water-soluble B vitamins, is generally produced from nicotinic acid (vitamin B3). It is often present in food products. It has been reported to have been effective in the treatment of pellagra, psoriasis, schizophrenia, and type I diabetes. It is also shown to possess anti-inflammatory activity.

应用

Nicotinamide may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations and biological fluids by chromatography, UV-visible spectrophotometry and multivariate analysis.
