General description
Rhodium(III)oxide (Rh2O3), also called rhodium sesquioxide, is an inorganic compoundnotable for its high thermal stability and insolubility in most solvents,including water and common acids. Its electrochromic and conductive propertiesmake it promising for applications in smart windows, displays, capacitors, andsolid oxide fuel cells. Additionally, it isused as a catalyst in several chemical reactions,including hydroformylation of alkenes and hydrogenation processes. It is alsoused in catalytic converters for automobiles to reduce harmful emissions.
Application
Rhodium(III) oxide can be used:
- As a catalyst in various organic reactions such as selective tandem olefin isomerization-hydrosilylation process.
- To prepare a metal oxide photocatalyst (SrTiO3:Rh) for hydrogen production.
- As a precursor to prepare Rh-doped potassium niobate single crystals.
