Description
Analysis Note
Moisture in raw and finished goods is undesirable in most industries. It may remain from a manufacturing process, or it may be introduced afterwards during storage.
The "Watercol" series of ionic liquid capillary GC columns are characterized by their ability to produce a sharp peak shape for water, sharp enough so that water can be integrated and quantified. Sharp peak shapes are also produced for many other small polar analytes.
This application shows the suitability of Watercol 1910 for the analysis of water in a 60-component solvent mix (11 alcohols, 1 aldehyde, 7 ketones, 10 esters, 3 ethers, 1 alkane, 12 aromatics, 12 chlorinated hydrocarbons, and 3 nitro compounds). The water peak was confirmed by injecting a standard (water in ethanol). In addition to a sharp water peak, the column′s selectivity results in elution of the water peak free from all 60 solvents.
