Analysis Note

The analysis of insulin by gel filtration chromatography is shown on a SRT SEC-150 column. The composition of the mobile phase, 20% acetonitrile in the presence of acetic acid and arginine, indicates that insulin is a very hydrophobic peptide. At higher sensitivity the chromatogram shows several degradation products or contaminants eluting before the insulin peak, a position where one would expect compounds of higher molecular mass to elute.
