Description

General description

Neonicotinoids are water-soluble insecticides. They are used for crop protection and can migrate from treated soil into plant tissue and flower nectar. Neonicotinoids have a negative effect on the brain cells of honeybees, possibly leading to the collapse of colonies. [Clothianidin, Imidacloprid and Thiamethoxam are banned in Germany, (EU) No. 485/2013]

Analysis Note

Here an HPLC-UV separation of 7 neonicotinoids on a Chromolith® HR RP-18e column with 2 mm ID is shown, achieving baseline separation in under 9 minutes. The chomatogram shown is for UV detection at 254 nm. For Dinotefuran, Imidacloprid, and Clothianidin a detection at 270 nm provides higher sensitivities.
