A dipeptidyl α-keto-β-aldehyde that acts as a slow, tight-binding, highly potent, reversible inhibitor of cathepsin S. Exhibits over 410-fold greater selectivity for cathepsin S (Ki = 185 pM) over cathepsin B (Ki = 76 nM).
