General description

FRMD4B (FERM domain containing 4B) is a highly polymorphic gene localized to human chromosome 3p14.1 and is composed of 24 exons. It was initially identified in a screen for CYTH3 (cytohesin 3)-interacting proteins. This protein is alternatively spliced in two variants found in brain and lung. It is composed of a FERM protein interaction domain and a two coiled coil domains.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

FRMD4B (FERM domain containing 4B) gene is not well characterized. rs6787362 polymorphism in this gene introns is linked with ischemic cardiomyopathy in a European-derived population. FRMD4B gene locus is linked with susceptibility to advanced heart failure. It might function as a scaffolding protein. FRMDB4 is a part of the GRP1 signaling pathway and in reponse to insulin receptor signaling it is acutely recruited to cell membrane ruffles.
