1. Endplate potentials (e.p.ps) were investigated in the presence of geographutoxin II (GTXII) in the mouse phrenic nerve diaphragm preparation. This toxin preferentially blocks muscle Na+ channels which allows the study of e.p.ps in the absence of nicotinic receptor antagonists

We describe the properties of a family of 22-amino acid peptides, the mu-conotoxins, which are useful probes for investigating voltage-dependent sodium channels of excitable tissues. The mu-conotoxins are present in the venom of the piscivorous marine snail, Conus geographus L.
