General description

CD71 (90-95 kDa) is a two-disulfide-bonded homodimeric glycoprotein (180 kDa) present on activated T and B cells, a subset of reticulocytes and on many activated proliferating cells. The expression of transferrin receptor expression on resting mature white blood cells is very low. However, this is up-regulated upon activation, reflecting the iron dependency of proliferation. CD71 is also found on macrophages, osteoblasts, germ cells, brain capillary endothelium and in virtually all permanent cell lines. This receptor is broadly distributed in carcinomas, sarcomas, leukemias and lymphomas.

Immunogen

KG1 acute myeloid leukemia cell line

Application

Applications in which this antibody has been used successfully, and the associated peer-reviewed papers, are given below.
Immunocytochemistry (1 paper)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Recognizes the CD71 human cell surface transferrin receptor. Human CD71 antibody is useful for flow cytometric and immunohistochemical studies of transformed cell lines, mitogen or antigen stimulated lymphocytes, erythropoietic cells, malignant tumors and germ cells.
