Gene Information

human ... S1PR4(8698)

General description

S1PR4 (sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 4) is a member of the S1P or the Edg (endothelial differentiation gene) receptor family, which contains five members. It is a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR). Its 3rd transmembrane domain contains a conserved glutamic acid residue. It is expressed in lung, hematopoietic and lymphoid tissue. This gene is localized to human chromosome 19p13.3.

Biochem/physiol Actions

G protein-coupled receptor whose ligand might be a lysophospholipid or lysosphingo-lipid. Specifically expressed in fetal and adult lymphoid, hematopoietic and lung tissue.
S1PR4 (sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 4) functions as a receptor for S1P, which is a phospholipid growth factor, and might control the transport of dendritic cells (DCs). Thus, it might promote Th2 lymphocyte-mediated immunity. S1P4 mediates RAS(rat sarcoma)-MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) pathway by interacting with Gi/o proteins. In ER (estrogen receptor)- breast cancer, its elevated expression is linked with decreased overall survival as well as disease-free survival.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.3.

Analysis Note

Used as a blocking peptide in immunoblotting applications with Anti-S1P4 polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies (Prod. Nos. E 7653, E 9529).
