General description

Uridine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase 1A6 (UGT1A6) is a polymorphic enzyme. This gene is located on human chromosome 2q37.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

Uridine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase 1A6 (UGT1A6) has the ability to control the protective effect of aspirin on colon adenoma risk. It participates in glucuronidation and hydroxylation of NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) as it plays an important role in NSAID metabolism. Mutation in UGT1A6 enzyme results in impaired metabolism of aspirin.
