Nitrilotriacetic acid trisodium salt monohydrate is a potent nongenotoxic carcinogen and has induced tumors of the urinary bladder and kidney on long term administration in rats. It induces diphtheria toxin-resistant mutants in human cell lines. It inhibits gap-junctional communication between chinese hamster lung fibroblast.
