Diosgenin exhibits anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimetastatic and antioxidant activities. It also exerts anticoagulant and antithrombotic properties. Diosgenin is used to treat cerebral disorders, allergic diseases and diabetes. It possesses anti-infectious against fungi, bacteria, protozoa and virus.

Diosgenin is a steroid precursor derived from saponins extracted from the tubers of wild yams.
Diosgenin is a steroidal sapogenin, which is produced by the hydrolysis of the saponin dioscin. It is extracted from Dioscorea, Trigonella, Costus and Smilax species.
