General description

24S,27-dihydroxycholesterol differs from 24S-hydroxycholesterol in steroid nucleus by having an additional hydroxyl group. 24S,27-dihydroxycholesterol is derived from 24S-hydroxycholesterol in the presence of enzyme cholesterol 24-hydroxylase (P450 46A1).
