There are two types of dihydroceramide desaturases, such as DES1 and DES2. DES1 is ubiquitously present and DES2 is present in the gut and skin.

生化/生理作用

Dihydroceramide (DH-Cer) plays a key role in de novo biosynthesis of sphingolipid by acting as an intermediate. Dihydroceramide modulates autophagy. This metabolite can stimulate fibrosis in hepatic steatosis model. It can enhance the lipid droplets by damaging the autophagic flux.
