General description
05:0 PC is a saturated fatty acid. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a strong bilayer-forming lipid. It the most common phospholipid in mammalian membranes. It is also an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon.
The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.
Application
05:0 PC is suitable for use to study about the behaviour of its proton bound homo- and heterooligomers by ESI-MS/MS.
Biochem/physiol Actions
05:0 PC is sensitive to the electrospray ionization (ESI) conditions. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) functions as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface to inhibit bacterial penetrance. It is used to treat fat embolism. Phosphatidylcholine lowers the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.
