General description
N-Tetradecanoyl-D-homoserine lactone/C14-HSL is a N-acylhomoserine lactone (HSL). C14-HSL is a non-polar compound. HSLs derivatives differ mostly in the alkanoyl chain length, varying from four to 18 carbons.
Biochem/physiol Actions
N-acylhomoserine lactones derivatives (HSLs) with different alkanoyl side chains, are diffusing or quorum sensing molecules in Gram negative bacteria. They help in signaling the bacterial cells and regulate the cell densities.
