一般描述
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) (Lecithins) is a zwitterion with a quaternary ammonium group and a phosphate moiety in its structure. PC generally possesses saturated fatty acid in the sn-1 position and unsaturated fatty acid at sn-2 position. PC is a strong bilayer forming lipid, present abundantly in mammalian membranes. cytidine diphosphate-choline (CDP-choline) is the precursor for PC synthesis. Selective deuteration of this lipid may have applications in structural studies using techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), neutron reflectivity and small-angle neutron scattering.
生化/生理作用
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) plays a key role in cholesterol transport and membrane lipid homeostasis. It is the precursor for sphingomyelin synthesis. PC is essential for the synthesis of signaling molecules like diacyl glycerol (DAG), phosphatidic acid and lysophosphatidic acid. 16:0 PC (DPPC) is the key phospholipid in the lipid bilayer of the membranes and also major constituent of lung surfactant.
