General description

18:0 Phosphocholine (PC)-deuterium70 contains phosphocholine head group and an 18-deuterated carbon chain.
Deuterated fatty acids experience exchange of the deuteriums on the alpha carbon to the carbonyl, i.e., C2 position, and will therefore be a mixture of compounds that are fully deuterated and partially deuterated at that position.
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the most common phospholipid in mammalian membranes. It is a strong bilayer-forming lipid, which is a crucial component of the mucosal layer of the colon.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) acts as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface, which prevents bacterial invasion. It reduces the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. Phosphatidylcholine is used to treat fat embolism.
Phosphocholine (PC) post-translationally alter the placental neurokinin B hormone and decrease the host immune response.
