General description

45.413 kDa is the calculated molecular weight. In Western Blot, immunoreactive bands which might reflect multimeric species of Neurotensin Receptor 2, are detected at approximately 60-65 kDa, 75 kDa, and 80-85 kDa Sarret, P., et al. (2003). J Comp Neurol. 461(4):520-538.
Neurotensin Receptor 2 (NTR2) is a member of the G-protein coupled receptor family. Neurotensin is a 13 amino acid peptide that induces hypothermia and mediates analgesia when administered centrally, and also mediates the behavioral effects of antipsychotic drugs in rodents (Kinkead and Nemeroff, 2004). In addition, several intestinal functions, such as contractility and inflammation, are mediated by neurotensin (Castagliuolo et al., 1999). The actions of neurotensin are mediated by two GPCRs, NTR1 (or NTS1) and NTR2 (or NTS2). NTR2 recognizes a histamine H1 receptor antagonist that had been shown to compete with neurotensin for low-affinity binding sites in the brain.
