Biochem/physiol Actions

Recognizes the 80kDa alpha chain of VLA-4. Reacts with monocytes, T cells, B cells, thymocytes and Langerhans cells. Can be used in basic studies of VLA-4 mediated adhesion and its interaction with the VCAM-1 structure. HP2/1 inhibits cell binding to soluble VCAM-1.

Integrins are adhesion receptors that mediate both cell-extracellular matrix and cell-cell interactions. It has also been reported that the loss of integrin alpha4 expression might be associated with metastasis in several cancers. However, the molecular mechanism for loss of their

Spermiation is the final step of spermatogenesis and culminates in the disengagement (release) of elongated spermatids from Sertoli cells into the seminiferous tubule lumen. Spermiation failure, wherein spermatids are retained by Sertoli cells instead of releasing, occurs after hormone suppression.
