General description
Receptor-linked protein-tyrosine phosphatases (RPTPs) are signaling proteins that regulate a variety of cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitosis, and oncogenic transformation. Leukocyte common antigen receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase (LAR/PTPRF), a negative regulator of several receptor tyrosine kinases, is present in high concentrations in mature synapses and is considered to be important for the development and maintenance of excitatory synapses in hippocampal neurons. Disruption of LAR function is shown to result in loss of excitatory synapses, diminution in surface AMPA receptors, and impairment of dendritic targeting of the cadherin–beta-catenin complex. LAR is also present in neurons expressing TrkB where it participates in survival of neurons and the neurite outgrowth. Increased expression of LAR in insulin-responsive tissues has also been associated with obesity and insulin resistance.
~78 kDa observed. The full length protein is 210 kDa; however, it runs lower in Western Blotting due to proteolysis into P-subunit containing transmembrane and intracellular domains (Prof. J. Trimmer, University of California, Davis).
Immunogen
Recombinant protein corresponding to human LAR/PTPRF.

Wnt signaling dysregulation promotes tumorigenesis in colorectal cancer (CRC). We investigated the role of PTPRF, a receptor-type tyrosine phosphatase, in regulating Wnt signaling in CRC. Knockdown of PTPRF decreased cell proliferation in patient-derived primary colon cancer cells and established CRC
