~120 units/mg protein (At 25 °C with oxidized glutathione as the substrate; standardized with BSA.)

packaging

pkg of 1 mL (5 mg)

manufacturer/tradename

Roche

storage temp.

2-8°C

Analysis Note

Contaminants: <0.01% NADPH oxidase and 6-PGDH each, <0.1% G6P-DH

Application

Glutathione reductase (GR) has been used for the reduction of GSSG (glutathione disulfide) to GSH (glutathione).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Glutathione Reductase (GR) is a NADPH-dependent flavoprotein that catalyzes the reduction of glutathione disulfide (GSSG) to glutathione (GSH). It is involved in the maintenance of glutathione levels, which is important for oxidation–reduction processes, detoxication and several other cellular functions. In yeast, GR protects the cells from oxidative stress and is transcriptionally regulated by yAP-1 (yes-associated protein 1) protein.

General description

Glutathione:NADP+ oxidoreductase

Other Notes

For life science research only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Physical form

Suspension in 3.2 M ammonium sulfate solution, pH approximately 6

Preparation Note

The ammonium sulfate suspension is stable at 2 to 8 °C until the expiration date printed on the label. It may be used directly in assays for glutathione.

Activator: EDTA prevents the formation of enzyme aggregates. Phosphate stimulates the NADH-dependent reaction.

Glutathione (GSH) is an abundant cellular thiol which has been implicated in many cellular processes including protection against xenobiotics, carcinogens and free radicals. Utilization of GSH in both enzymic and non-enzymic defence mechanisms results in its conversion to the oxidized
Glutathione reductase.

We present two different methods for determining levels of glutathione in complex biological samples and plasma. The DTNB/GR enzyme recycling method is sensitive and requires no specialized equipment. The HPLC method is particularly useful for situations in which sample amounts
