Addition of acetylene, to mercury (II) sulphate in sulphuric acid solution, results in production of a series of products; acetylide (HgC2), organometallic compounds (C2H2HgCl2.HgCl), chlorovinylmercury, aldehydes and ketones and mercuration products of aldehydes and ketones.
